One of the most beloved natural features in all of Milwaukee is the gorgeous Oak Leaf Trail. With spring quickly approaching and more time spent outdoors, we want to brag just a little about this lovely adventure that we just can’t recommend enough! For guests of Kinn Guesthouse, we actually have access points to the trail right here in the neighborhood. So, there’s just no excuse to miss out!
The mostly asphalt trail spans more than 120 miles, as it winds its way all throughout the Milwaukee metropolitan area and along the shores of Lake Michigan giving trail-goers stunning views of both nature and the cityscape. It’s the ideal place to let your inner shutterbug out, especially around sunset! Of course, it’s an excellent adventure for enthusiasts of all sorts to explore, as it takes you to some of the most visited and well-known places in the city. Some of our favorite stops along the way include:
- The Milwaukee Art Museum – The Art Museum often comes up as one of our favorite places, and that’s because it is truly one of Milwaukee’s greatest treasures. As one of the largest museums in the country, it features over 25,000 pieces of art with something for absolutely everyone. So, whether you’re an art enthusiast or a casual browser, you’ll definitely want to make this stop to check out the latest exhibits and events.
- Wehr Nature Center – The gorgeous 220-acre nature preserve and education center is open year-round to anyone who wanders through. Guests will get to experience natural history displays, a giant indoor beehive, and active aquaponics.
- Boerner Botanical Gardens – Located in the Oak Leaf Trail’s Whitnall Loop, Milwaukee’s Boerner Botanical Gardens, named after its original designer, Alfred Boerner, is truly a sight to see. The stunning gardens are well-kept by a team of professional horticulturists local to the area. Guests can enjoy the gorgeous displays starting in April through November.
- David F. Schulz Aquatic Center – Located on the Milwaukee River Line section of the Oak Leaf Trail, you’ll find the Aquatic Center. While it’s not open quite yet, once summer sets in, locals and visitors alike can enjoy this indoor water park. The facility features swimming, diving, a lazy river, tube and body water slides, and a snack bar.
There are many more fascinating stops to explore along the Oak Leaf Trail, and even special events throughout the year, but these are just a few to get you started as winter slowly begins to let up and the sun starts to shine. It’s great fun for outdoor lovers and casual naturists alike, as you explore the natural wonders of our beloved city as well as some of our most recognized cultural happenings around town. And, as guests of the Kinn Guesthouse, it’s a chance to get out and explore all that our little corner of the world has to offer within walking distance of your nice, comfy stay.
