Believe it or not, it’s already time to start thinking about those holiday travel plans! (We have already received several bookings from seasonal Milwaukee travelers!) So, whether you’re planning to come into town to visit family for Thanksgiving or planning a romantic New Year’s Eve getaway with your significant other, now is the time to set those plans in motion before things get too expensive, and let’s face it, stressful.
We all know that things around the holidays can get pretty chaotic, so we’re sharing some of our experienced advice to help you solidify your plans, early. Here are our tips for planning your holiday travel to Milwaukee:
- Avoid peak travel dates – While you may want that extra day to decompress before all of the festivities begin, believe it or not, it’s actually more affordable to travel on the day of the actual holiday, be it Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. If you’re a bit more flexible, this can really pay off, plus, less time on the front end can always be made up on the back end. It’s also worth noting that it’s easier to travel first thing in the morning or late at night; flights (as well as roadways) are far less congested.
- Shop around – Thanks to the power of the Internet, shopping around for travel deals has never been easier. If you’re looking for the absolute best flight prices, choose the flexible dates option. Sometimes a single day can mean huge savings! In conducting your search, you should also compare nearby airports. Sure, one airport may be 45 minutes closer to where you’re staying, but if you opt for that short drive from a different airport, the deal can be well worth it. And, if you shop around for package deals that include flight and a rental car, you can find even more bargains!
- Leave early – One of the worst parts about holiday travel is the wait at the airport. The lines are always exhaustingly long, and once you finally get in them, it’s usually after facing heavy traffic, a few wrong turns, etc., etc. So, to make things less stressful, just allow yourself plenty of extra time this year. You already know all of the potential delays you may encounter, so just plan to get ahead of them, and leave extra early. Sure, it may mean extra time spent waiting at the gate, but it sure beats the stress of almost missing your flight!
- Pack smart – We’ve all done it – we try to fit absolutely everything into a single carry-on bag to avoid the airline baggage fees. But, this may not be the wisest thing to do, now is it? Remember to pack only what you will actually use. You’ll also want to check all of your airline’s TSA regulations before you even arrive with your bag. You don’t want to have to throw away a gift or an expensive item that’s prohibited once you get through the security line. And, if you still have too much in your bag, just plan to pay for a checked bag. Trust us, it isn’t worth the stress of trying to fight your way around it. Just pack smart, and go with the flow.
Holiday travel really doesn’t have to be stressful. It’s all about planning ahead, being flexible, and just keeping your cool. After all, the holidays are supposed to be enjoyable.
