Whether you want to get out and hike, have a relaxing picnic under the trees, or find your inner seafarer fishing on lake shores, Bay View has some of the most extraordinary parks and recreation areas for you to enjoy.  There’s so much beauty to be discovered right here in our small corner of the world that we recommend to all of our guests who stay with us at the Kinn Guesthouse to seek their own outdoor adventures in our park systems.  These are some of our favorites:

South Shore Park

(2800 S Shore Dr.)

South Shore Park is the perfect place to go for a run or spend a relaxing afternoon skipping rocks along the shores.  Located right on Lake Michigan, guests have access to a beach, beer garden, a playground for the little ones and some of the most spectacular views of the lake and downtown.  The park is very well kept and boasts some of the friendliest people you will ever come to pass. And, there’s even a little library next to the playground for all you bookworms hoping to disappear into far off lands while taking in the fresh air.

Humboldt Park

(3000 S Howell Ave.)

This Bay View park truly has it all!  From nature paths, to picnic areas, baseball fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, a beer garden, lagoon, lily pond, kiddie wading pool and band shell for live music, absolutely everyone can enjoy their ideal form of outdoor play at Humboldt Park.  It also hosts many exciting events during the summer, from the weekly (Tuesday nights) Chill on the Hill to all sorts of other cultural festivals, like India Fest and Puerto Rican Fest.

Cupertino Park

(2000 E Iron St.)

Cupertino Park is an ideal place to gather with friends and family for a quiet and relaxing picnic.  For those who stick around the area into the evening, you can experience the beauty of nature as Green Herons and Loons explore the grounds around you.  Or, perhaps you’re more of a morning person. If so, Cupertino is the perfect place to watch the sunrise while you try your hand at fishing off the pier.  And, don’t forget to check out the community garden.

Lake Park

(3233 E Kenwood Blvd)

Lake Park is full of exciting amenities in addition to their gorgeous trails, exceptional native-plant life and picnic areas.  If you’re feeling up for a little more aerobic activity, enjoy the soccer field, softball diamond, tennis courts or golf course.  There’s also a tot lot for the little ones to let out all of their energy.

Lakeshore State Park

(500 N Harbor Dr.)

Park goers fall in love with the beautiful wild flowers that engulf the prairies of Lakeshore State Park.  Share the trails with geese and local fisherman who bring their own depth and character to the backdrop. The beautiful open space is an urban oasis in downtown Milwaukee.  It’s the premier urban lakefront destination for environmental and freshwater education, recreation, conservation and outdoor enjoyment.

There are so many beautiful outdoor retreats in and around Bay View that there are simply too many to mention.  But, if you’re in need of some fresh air and a serene walk with nature, these will set you on the path you seek.  Happy exploring!
