This July, Milwaukee will welcome the 2020 Democratic National Convention into town along with tens of thousands of visitors!  It’s the most anticipated event the year, as it’s expected to present the Democratic candidate to the stage that will go head to head with President Trump in November’s presidential election. The city is buzzing with anticipation and excitement to show off to the world all that our great city and state have to offer, and 2020 Democratic National Convention hotel blocks are becoming harder and hard to find. Are you wondering what you can expect from this big event? Here’s what we know so far:

  • The DNC will take place Monday, July 13th – Thursday, July 16th at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.
  • It’s predicted that our city will have an influx of over 50,000 visitors.
  • Roads and traffic may be tricky with more cars and an estimated 400 buses transporting attendees and delegates around town.
  • Over the duration of the convention, there are more than 1,500 events planned all throughout the region.
  • The economic impact will be massive, upwards of $200 million for hotels and businesses of all sizes, across all industries.

The Democratic National Convention is where the next Democratic presidential candidate will be chosen. It’s a culmination of the primary process that’s expected to weed down the field of candidates. The long road before the stage in Milwaukee takes current candidates through primaries across key states like Iowa, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, and then Super Tuesday when many other states hold their primaries.  Americans across the country will be casting their votes for their chosen candidate leading right up until the convention.

The chosen candidate will be presented as the presidential contender at the Fiserv Forum.  While that is certainly the main event, there will be hundreds of other events both at and surrounding the convention across Milwaukee and throughout the state over those few days in July.  It will be a spectacle and a celebration for all involved and attending. But, for locals, you’ll likely be watching from afar.

Generally, the people attending the convention are delegates, elected officials from the Democratic Party, speakers, journalists and volunteers.  Very few tickets are available to the general public. But, if you really want to participate in this historic event, there are other ways you can get involved.  For instance, to host such a massive event, the city of Milwaukee needs thousands of volunteers and workers to help make it all happen – more than 10,000! So, whether you’re a local or just want to help support our city and the DNC, you can fill out a volunteer application through the DNC website.
